Paul's letter to Philemon
"Slave Labour"

This sermon by Rev. Stephen Milton over Labour Day weekend, reflects on what work used to be like before modern day civic rule and organizations such as unions, with a historical view of slave labour through the ages.

In Paul's letter to Philemon, we hear that the apostle Paul is once again in jail, where he is visited by an escaped slave named Onesimus. Paul is against slavery but he won't openly condemn it.  He simply suggests Philemon set his slave free.  He wanted Philemon to take the Christian hint.

How far are we willing to apply the values contained in the Bible in today's landscape?  There are no certain answers - but guidance and wisdom to direct our travels through dark times with good conscience.
