On most Sundays John Suk is the minister you’ll find behind Lawrence Park Community Church’s pulpit. He’s passionate about preaching compelling sermons that are both relevant to contemporary culture and deeply rooted in the Christian tradition. John also works hard at being an approachable, welcoming presence in the church, both for members and guests. Besides his divinity degrees, he has a Ph.D. in Communication Theory. He’s also the author of the acclaimed Not Sure: A Pastor’s Journey from Faith to Doubt (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2011). You can find his blog at: faithisntwhatyouthink.blogspot.ca, and he can be contacted at [email protected]
“I used to be an Evangelical pastor, but at a certain point in my career, I realized that I had changed my mind. The United Church of Canada has been a sanctuary for me. I love Lawrence Park Community Church because it has allowed me to explore Christian spirituality informed by, but not shackled to, ancient creeds and confessions. Churches need to be two things. First, safe places to explore life’s most difficult questions. And second, loving communities where you can experience support, encouragement, and real joy among people who are really committed to each other. Lawrence Park is exactly those things. My greatest pleasure is crafting sermons that speak in a compelling manner to both goals.”
