At Lawrence Park Community Church, our youth program is all about making friends while exploring what life is all about. And we have lots of fun along the way. While many programs happen on Sundays, there are midweek possibilities too! Youth from grade five through high school are welcome.
Three Sundays a month we start off with the congregation for the first few minutes of church. The pastor offers a two- or three-minute meditation for the youth, but then we head to our own space soon after. In our meetings we discuss how our faith does—or sometimes doesn’t—make sense in today’s world. We usually do so by looking at faith through the lens of popular culture, from Star Wars to Narnia to superheroes. There is usually lots of pizza, too!
Once a month we have an “Especially Youth,” service, where the topic of the day is chosen by the youth. Our youth band, Pancake Lunch (which anyone may join) often contributes to the service, and dramas are a regular part of the message. On these Sundays the youth handle everything from ushering to scripture reading to serving after-service refreshments as well. Besides Sunday activities we have two youth retreats each year, play laser-tag, go to operas, and help serve the homeless at our church’s Out of the Cold program.
The youth program leader is DeeAnn Sagar, one of Lawrence Park Church’s staff members. If you have questions about the program, send her an email at [email protected]
