Wednesday, November 4th Class Topic:
The topic for this Wednesday's class will be "Tech and Media Hygiene." It should be one of the most practical classes in the series. I invite everyone to join us, even if you have not read the material, or if you have not come before. It will make sense, but challenge you too!
The class will run until Wednesday, November 18th. Start time will be 7:30 p.m. and we'll go to about 8:45 p.m.
If you would like to prepare for this course, one book recommended and helpful on a practical level, and that John will be discussing several times during the course, is Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World. The book was published by Penguin in 2019, and is available from Amazon and other online booksellers, both in print and digital versions.
John will also be referring to these books as well: Reading and the Brain: The New Science of How We Read (Stanislas Dehaene); Reader Come Home: The Reading Braion in a Digital World (Maryanne Wolf), and (for a very optimistic read of the digital world) Growing Up Digital: How the Net Generation Is Changing the World (Don Tapscott).
This should be lots of fun. Every class is stand alone, and that no one will have to read any of the books to get a lot out of the classes-and discussion!
See you then.
