The kindest, most humane book I’ve read this past year is Richard Holloway’s Waiting for the Last Bus: Reflections on Life and Death. Holloway is a former Bishop of Edinburgh, in England. Like many of
us—including me—

Holloway tries to honestly reflect on what he really believes and what he’s made of his life as he enters the last phase of his life. For me, reading this book was a great way to start thinking about my career and legacy as aminister and person of faith. But it also helped dispel some of the clouds that gather when I think about my mortality.

Holloway challenged me to see my impending retirement as a great time to take on new challenges that will address my deepest spiritual yearnings. This is a profoundly hopeful book. And, it’s written in a compelling and accessible manner.

Join me, via Zoom, on Wednesday nights until May 19, from 7:30 to 8:45 for this book discussion. The book is available on line from Amazon and Chapters/Indigo. You probably won’t find it in a
bookstore (but who knows?). It is also available for download at Amazon.
